The children have had such a wonderful time enjoying the sunshine and water play during Beach Party Week, as well as celebrating Eid and the Women’s Euros too. A big congratulations to our Swans children who had their graduation this month too. We are all so proud of them and everything they have achieved during their time at 22 Street Lane Nursery. They all looked very smart in their uniforms and graduation hats when they went up to receive their certificates and books. The celebrations continued into the afternoon with a special garden party for the children and their families. August is always touched with a little sadness as we say goodbye to the some of the children as they move to big school. Nafeesa is really excited to start and is looking forward to getting to know you and the children! “I am currently working as an early years educator after starting my career at the beginning of 2021. I began working with children voluntarily in secondary school, where I did numerous work experiences and voluntary work in nurseries and school settings. I have since learnt so much more about working with children as well as myself, and my goal is to continue working with children for as long as I can! I am a passionate individual who is easy to get along with and enjoys reading and cooking in my spare time, and occasionally baking. After completing my childcare qualification during the first national lockdown, I am excited to be situated in such a wonderful setting and I'm ready to meet all the children in the Cygnets Room.”

Welcoming Eden Briggs to the Goslings Room We would also like to introduce Eden Briggs who will be joining our Goslings Room as a Qualified Practitioner, Eden has lots of experience and is looking forward to getting to know you all! “I have multiple years of experience working with children from babies up to school age and have a BA Degree in Early Years and Psychology from Nottingham Trent University. I am very excited and honoured to be joining the team at 22 Street Lane and can't wait to get to know the children and families!

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking and spending time with my family. I love animals and being outside and like to incorporate outdoor experiences into children's learning as much as possible!”

Dish of the Month

• 2 lemons, 1 juiced, 1 cut into wedges to serve • 150g pot natural yogurt • 4 garlic cloves • A thumb-sized piece ginger, roughly chopped • 1-2 green chillies • A small pack of fresh coriander • ½ tsp turmeric • 1 tsp ground cumin • 1 tsp garam masala • 16 skinless, boneless chicken thighs • 1 large baking potato, cut in half lengthways • 6 shop-bought naan bread See our past selections on: 22streetlanenursery.co.uk/dish-of-the-month/ Ingredients Chicken Shawarma

Method

Tip all the ingredients, except the chicken and lemon wedges, into a blender with 1 tsp of sea salt and whizz to a smooth paste. Pile the chicken into a bowl, pour over the paste and mix until the chicken is completely coated. Cover and marinate for between 4-48 hours - the longer, the better. On the BBQ - Light a lidded barbecue and let the flames die down. Once the coals have turned ashen, pile them up on one side with a few coals scattered around the other. Thread all the chicken onto two long metal skewers so that they are really compact and add half a baking potato at each end. Place this to the side of the BBQ with only a few coals underneath. Pop the lid down and cook for 45-50 minutes, turning every 15 minutes, or until cooked through - prise the chicken pieces apart and check its at least 70C on your thermometer. Leave to rest for 5 minutes. In the oven - Heat the oven to 220C/200C Fan/Gas Mark 8. Sit the kebab across a roasting tin so it is suspended, or on top of a wire rac0. Cook for 45-55 minutes or until cooked through. Warm the naan on the BBQ or in the oven. Bring the kebab to the table to carve, wrap with warm naans, and serve with the other salads and lemon wedges for squeezing over.

August Newsletter Carnival Week: W/C Monday 22nd August

As we know that many of our families attend the Leeds West Indian Carnival, we will be supporting this by holding our very own Carnival Week at 22 Street Lane Nursery! The children are invited to wear bright colours and carnival decorations to join in with the festivities. We will have lots of carnival music, dancing, mask making activities and children will be able to create their own headdresses with colourful decorative resources too.

August Newsletter Chicklets Room News

As the weather has been super-hot, the Chicklets made the most of this by engaging in lots of water and ice activities! We froze lots of natural objects in ice trays and loved watching them slowly melt to rescue the items inside. The sunshine came out just in time for Beach Week, where the children came in their best beach clothes, enjoyed fish and chips for lunch and even had yummy ice cream for pudding! As part of our Eid festivities, the Chicklets decorated their very own mosques with brightly coloured paints and got messy in a shaving foam tuff tray! They also enjoyed tasting some Eid-inspired food too, which was very tasty. We finished off our July celebrations with Football Day to support the Women’s Euros, where we practised our football skills and even decorated our own 22SLN football tops! The Chicklets loved using different materials to design their tops in the England colours, which all looked great. Throughout July, the Chicklets have been working super hard on their social skills and have loved identifying their friends in pictures and in the room too. With this, the children have been working on their communication skills as they practice saying all their friends’ names! It’s great to see such great bonds forming between the Chicklets and see their friendships grow.

Ducklings Room News

The Ducklings have had a jam-packed month full of fun summer activities. We started off the month celebrating Eid Al-Adha, where the Ducklings shared a lovely story all about Eid and explored some Eid themed messy play. They also made their very own Mehdi patterns, using henna-coloured paint and natural resources. It has been a really hot month with lots of lovely weather, so the Ducklings kept cool by getting into their beach wear and enjoyed lots of fun water and ice play. We had story times in the shaded story den and also enjoyed ice lollies too. This month we have been promoting oral hygiene in the Ducklings Room. Some of the Ducklings had pictures of them brushing their teeth sent in to share. We listened to songs about brushing our teeth while taking care of all the dolls at our dentist role play. The Ducklings were so good at showing us their teeth brushing techniques. Next month is all about transition time into the Cygnets Room. The Ducklings will be exploring all the wonderful things to do in the Cygnets Room and will be meeting their new Key Person. We can't believe how quickly they have grown!

We are now extremely busy, and it is impossible for us to do this for all children. This is stated in our terms and conditions. Thank you for your co operation.
