The Chicklets made the most of the sunny weather, coming to nursery in their swimwear and enjoying lots of fun water-based activities in the garden! The little paddling pool was a favourite as the Chicklets stood inside and made a great big splash! The warm weather meant we could make the most of Healthy Eating Week too, blending up fruit to make our very own ice lollies, smoothie bowls and summer fruit salads. We kicked off our June celebrations with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee! The Chicklets enjoyed lots of Jubilee themed activities full of red, white and blue, we even made our very own crowns to wear at the Jubilee tea party. To conclude the day, we enjoyed a picnic for tea full of tasty treats, such as finger sandwiches and scones! Father’s Day was our next big event where we enjoyed a Stay and Play in the big garden. It was great to see all the daddies getting stuck into our activities, especially the water trays on such a hot day, before settling down to enjoy some yummy burgers and quesadillas. We would just like to say a great big 'thank you' to all the parents for attending, the Chicklets loved being able to share such a glorious day at nursery with you. Throughout June, the Chicklets have been working super hard on their communication skills and working to tell the staff what they want and need. With this, books have been a big interest and the children have loved sharing stories with the staff and their friends too! We’re hoping to continue this progress into July to help build the Chicklet's independence, ready for their move to their next room in September!

Ducklings Room News

The Ducklings had lots of fun celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, we danced, had a big party and did lots of messy play activities. The children have shown an interest in painting this month and telling the practitioners what colours they are using. We used large-scale cards with lots of different sized brushes to paint outside. The children chose their own colours and poured them carefully into the paint pallets and did a great job of sharing. This month we have taken some fun trips to Roundhay Park, where the children used their large motor skills to kick and throw a ball on the field to each other. We visited the lake and the fairy garden where we found a wooden camp, we explored the camp and added more sticks to make it extra strong. Some of the Ducklings also took a trip to the shops to buy their own healthy snacks to eat in the special flower gardens, where they enjoyed looking at all the different types of freshly grown, colourful flowers. The Ducklings have loved looking at animal books, pointing out animals and making their noises, we have been looking at animals that live on land in water, splashing them in the water tray. This month has been very hot, so the Ducklings have loved lots of water fun days in the garden and making dens to stay cool. The Ducklings adore dogs, we love to say 'hello' to all the lovely dogs in Roundhay Park so we had a special guest. Elana, bring in her cute Cocker Spaniel to visit everyone. The Ducklings loved seeing Blue and taking it in turns to stroke him while being ever so gentle.

July Newsletter Cygnets Room News

The Cygnets have had a very busy month! We have been learning lots about wildlife, in particular, focusing on the life cycle of a caterpillar. They read through the Very Hungry Caterpillar, which is one of our favourites and to follow this interest, we decided to get our own caterpillars to watch them grow into butterflies first hand! The children took great care of them by giving them water and fruit. We’ve also been on lots of exciting bug hunts in the garden, where the children have found, worms, woodlice and caterpillars under the large wooden logs and in the mud. The Cygnets took a closer look using magnifying glasses. We also celebrated the local triathlon, the Cygnets got very creative and made a massive, good luck banner to go outside the nursery to cheer all the athletes on. A big interest for a group of the children have been sea animals, so some of the children went on an exciting trip to Tropical World, where they watched the fish swim, spiders crawling, frogs jumping and they even saw a big crocodile. The Cygnets have become very independent recently; therefore we have been encouraging this and proving opportunities for the children to carry out day-to-day tasks themselves. The Cygnets have been doing a fantastic job at preparing their own snacks, which includes cutting up their own fruit and vegetables. The Cygnets have also spent lots of time outside exploring a variety of different activities. We explored ice play, where the children enjoyed freeing the natural materials from the large ice blocks. We also had lots of fun having water flights, splashing in multiply water plays and a big slip and slide!
