Ducklings Room News

The Ducklings have been really interested in the 'Bear Hunt' book at nursery, so we decided to do a Bear Hunt sensory walk following on from this. We started the Bear Hunt by going through the 'splishy splashy' water where the Ducklings got to splash in the water tray saying 'wet' and 'splash, splash!’. The Ducklings then had a turn at going through the 'squelch splashy' mud where they could feel the texture of the mud between their feet. The Ducklings then 'tiptoed' quietly through the cave, where they eventually found 'A BEAR!' all the children got a chance to find the bear and they were very excited! The children have also shown an interest in mini-beasts over the past few weeks and enjoy exploring them with our mini-beast tuff trays. We have enjoyed using our magnifying glasses to explore the mud searching for our minibeasts. We have also continued this interest to the garden where we found worms, spiders and bugs! To extend this learning, Hannah brought in her pet to the nursery for us all to see. Her name is Ivy the Giant African Millipede, the Ducklings enjoyed feeling all the little legs and tried counting how many legs she, has but it was far too many! We also enjoyed feeding her watermelon and stroking her, we spoke about how she felt and even what colour she was. We loved her. One of the little Ducklings said she was ‘amazing’. The Ducklings have also been joining in with Eid celebrations this month. We have been busy painting moons and stars to take home as decorations. The Ducklings have also enjoyed reading books about Eid at carpet time.
