Once again, we have had a very exciting month in Chicklets Room after recently having a room move-around. So far, the Chicklets have loved exploring the new layout and have had lots of room to run around. The messy play activities have been a big hit and we have incorporated this into our celebrations, such as Easter and Eid. The Chicklets also enjoyed exploring lots of different materials like tissue paper, food play, sand, gloop and shaving foam. We are super excited to continue investigating different messy play opportunities throughout May as we continue our celebrations with the Coronation of King Charles III (6th May) and World Bee Day (20th May). May will also bring lots of new outdoor adventures as we have the new tipi fitted and, with the weather warming up, should be able to enjoy lots of sunshine outside!

Ducklings Room News

The Ducklings have had a great month and have taken part in all sorts of fun activities, as well as enjoying time outdoors. Our first celebration in April was Easter, lots of the Ducklings brought in Easter Bonnets and it was great to see all of the lovely creations. The children also joined in with an Easter Egg Hunt where the Ducklings looked around the garden to find the eggs and put them into their baskets, whilst wearing their lovely Bonnets. We were also very lucky to have a visit from the Easter Bunny who came to say 'hello' to us all! To follow the children’s interest in babies, we have had lots of baby-related activities such as bathing, feeding and changing. We've also had many messy play activities that the Ducklings have really enjoyed participating in. We have also enjoyed celebrating Eid through messy play with the children! We have also been super lucky as some of our Ducklings have been celebrating Eid at home and have shared pictures which we have been able to show the other children within the room. With the warmer weather this past month, we have managed to go on a few outings to the park, where we have enjoyed feeding the ducks and observing the signs of Spring. We hope everyone enjoyed our Home Learning Challenge this month, thank you to everyone who participated. We will be setting a May Home Learning Challenge soon, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled!

May Newsletter Goslings Room News

The Goslings have been very busy over the past few weeks, with a visit from the Easter Bunny and celebrating lots of festivals. We started off with all things Easter where the Goslings showed off their creative side by using materials such as paper, feathers, glue and paint in messy play activites. We also had our Easter Bonnet competition, which so many of our children participated in and were so proud to show off their decorations! To finish our celebrations, we had an Easter Egg Hunt in the Baby Garden, which was so exciting. The children were each given a basket and helped each other find all the hidden eggs. The Goslings have shown lots of interest in learning about animals this month, and they have shown particular interest in hearing the sounds. In order to encourage this interest, we our activities have been orientated around animals, with a particular focus bugs, zoo and sea animals. To celebrate Eid, the children made some lovely moon and star decorations using foil, and we also enjoyed lots of sensory tuff trays with coloured rice and paint for different textures. They also enjoyed creating henna patterns using fine paint brushes. The Goslings have also begun to enjoy sharing pictures of their family and friends every week during our story times, which is a great way to encourage their speech and language. Please keep sharing photos of what your child gets up to on non-nursery days, as it helps us with our planning.

May Newsletter Cygnets Room News

In the Cygnets Room, we have been celebrating Vaisakhi, a traditional Sikh and Hindu festival celebrating the Spring Harvest. We've also been very busy creating lots of colourful crafts including making the Sikh Flag, called the Nishan, making lions and even baking our own chapattis. The Cygnets enjoyed taking part in learning about Vaisakhi! Our caterpillars have also arrived, which all the Cygnets are very excited about. Over the next few weeks, we will be watching the lifecycle of the caterpillars as they turn into beautiful butterflies. To support this, the Cygnets have been reading 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and learning some Makaton signs that go along with the story. We have also been celebrating Eid, where the Cygnets painted some henna patterns, made traditional lanterns, as well as painting pictures of moons and stars to celebrate Eid! We also learned a lot about Eid from these activities. Based on the children’s interests, we have had lots of activities in the creative area using the scissors to cut out pictures from their weekend adventures, lots of cars and princesses and using different natural resources. Next month we are looking forward to celebrating the King Charles' Coronation and we'll be learning about the Royal Family through fun and exciting activities. We will also be having a Afternoon Tea Party to celebrate! We also can’t wait to watch our caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies next month, the Cygnets have been so engaged in watching their progress in them every day and can’t wait to see them transform.

Swans Room News May Newsletter

The Swans Room has continued to enjoy all of the signs of Spring, particularly the sunshine this past month. We have celebrated lots of special times of the year for different religions, including Easter, Passover, Vaisakhi, Ramadan and Eid. We learnt about why each of these is celebrated and took part in lots of fun activities relating to each event. We had an Easter Egg Hunt with the Cygnet children, decorated eggs, read Easter stories, took part in the Easter Bonnet Competition, made our own Seder plates, designed Mandala patterns, made our own Henna designs and much more. As well as learning about these special religious days, the Swans also made their own egg and cress sandwiches with the cress they had grown. They planted the seeds in the soil and checked their progress each day. When they were ready, we cut them and mixed them in with eggs to make our sandwiches! We then all had a picnic together admiring our hard work. The children have also been working on their counting skills and we have been using language including ‘more’ and ‘less’ when discussing different amounts. During May, we are looking forward to celebrating the upcoming Coronation of King Charles III and will be taking part in lots of activities for this occasion. Additionally, we will take part in Mental Health Awareness Week, with a focus on our and others’ feelings, as well as learning to be kind. We cannot wait to see where the children’s interests will take us this month and can’t wait to learn more.
