Dear Parents and Carers, Autumn has arrived here at 22 Street Lane! We have enjoyed seeing the leaves change colour and getting wrapped up in our cosy coats to explore our ever-changing environment at the nursery. We have lots of activities planned for October based on our autumn theme, such as park walks where the children can collect some exciting treasures such as pinecones, conkers and different coloured leaves. It is also World Mental Health Day this month, so we will be exploring different ways the children can express their feelings through play, conversations and circle time, as well as finding new ways to look after our mental health. We will be ending the month with our annual Halloween Party and Pumpkin Decoration Competition, which we hope to display at the front of the nursery for all families to see! We're also planning a Stay and Play Halloween Messy Play Session for each room on the week commencing October 16th. To find out more, please read on...

The Swans children also made apple sun catchers and took part in ‘apple bobbing‘. The children even made their very own challah bread too and dipped it in a delicious chicken noodle soup made by Oli.

October Newsletter Chicklets Room News
May we start with a big welcome to all the new Chicklets who have joined us so far this month! We have had a great start to the new school year and have loved meeting all the new Chicklets and parents. The Chicklets team have loved learning all about the children’s interests and forming great bonds with all the children - we can’t wait to watch our journey together develop over the coming months. The Chicklets have loved exploring the room and investigating all the different resources. The climbing frame and the ball pit have been a big hit. Physical development has been a big focus this month as the Chicklets challenge themselves sitting, tackling the steps of the climbing frame and pulling themselves up on the ballet bar. Books have also been a big interest; they have all enjoyed settling down in the cosy area and looking at some of their favourite books from the bookshelf. Our favourite books feature sensory pages and flaps we can open! We look forward to continuing welcoming the new Chicklets and parents to the room this October. We can’t wait to learn all about your interests and help you grow throughout your time here.

Ducklings Room News
The Ducklings children have begun settling into the room well and they enjoy exploring their new environment. We have been on many pleasant walks to the park, where we have loved walking around the lake and saying "hello" to the swans, cygnets and ducklings in the pond! We have also learned how to say “quack” too. The Ducklings have also enjoyed our sensory sessions, which have encouraged learning through exploration, curiosity, problem solving and creativity. It helps to build nerve connections in the brain and encourages the development of language and engaging with their motor skills! Our sensory sessions have included bubbles, lights and bean bags, and this has been a popular activity with all our children in Ducklings Room. We have also introduced many messy play activities to the children, such as using sand, water, and shaving foam and letting the children get their hands messy and exploring the different textures. We have also enjoyed participating in ‘Shake Rattle and Boogie’ sessions on Wednesday with Kimberly. The Ducklings have loved exploring all the exciting musical instruments that Kimberly has brought in, as well as joining in with the actions to the fun songs and saying "hello" to ‘Boogie Bear’. We are also very excited to be setting our first Home Learning Challenge. We will be handing out autumn bags and asking our families to collect things such as conkers and leaves on their autumn walks to bring the bags back into the nursery. We will then use them for our messy play setups and activities at the nursery!

October Newsletter Goslings Room News
What a wonderful start to September we have had. Our new little Goslings have made a great start in their new room. They have been busy exploring and enjoying lots more new experiences! We have been on walks to Roundhay Park to feed the ducks and spend time with their new Key Workers, which has been great fun. Some of the Goslings even enjoyed a trip to Tropical World where we saw all types of animals, such as lizards and meerkats. The Goslings have been enjoying the home corner particularly the most, especially taking care of the babies! The balcony is also something the Goslings are a big fan of, as there is plenty of room for them to explore, alongside lots of messy fun featuring materials such as shaving foam and cornflour. During Rosh Hashanah celebrations, the Goslings enjoyed listening to Israeli music, alongside decorating their very own paper plates using apple slices in paint to make marks. The Goslings have begun to venture out into the Big Garden, which has been very exciting as they are given more opportunities to explore. Lastly, we would like to welcome our new parents and children to the Goslings Room, we hope you enjoy your new chapter at 22 Street Lane Nursery as much as we do.

October Newsletter Cygnets Room News
This month we have welcomed the new children and families to the Cygnets Room. We have loved getting to know everyone and can’t wait for the year ahead. The Cygnets are settling very well, and they have really enjoyed exploring the new environment. As we've gotten to know the children, we have learnt about the countries where they all come from and set up different flags in the tuff tray to celebrate, which the Cygnets enjoyed exploring using different natural materials. This month we have been celebrating Rosh Hashanah. The Cygnets enjoyed printing with apples dipped in red paint to make their own pictures, as well as making their own apples with playdough. The Cygnets children loved getting involved in their new classes, which are Debutots and Rugby Tots. In Debutots, the Cygnets have been showing off their best imagination skills! While in Rugby Tots, the children have been taking part in lots of exciting games and getting to know Coach James. They have also loved practising some of the gross motor skills, such as kicking, throwing, and catching rugby balls. Finally, we finished off our September celebrating the start of Autumn. We started to collect sticks, leaves and other natural materials to create our own pictures. The Cygnets enjoyed walking around the garden and had a treasure hunt together!
CYGNETS ROOM
During September most of the children moved from Cygnets into Swans and we have had a lovely time getting to know the new children and all their individual interests. We have been wowed by how well the children are doing in their new room and they have been learning our ‘Golden Rules’ with the matching actions. At the start of September, the weather was very hot, so we put on our swim clothes and enjoy LOTS of wet activities to help keep us cool. We loved playing in the sand and pretending we were on the beach. During September we also celebrated Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana. We looked at pictures of Challah Bread and worked as a team to make the bread, and it turned out so well! We learnt about how, for Rosh Hashanah, people let their past mistakes go and look forward to a 'sweet New Year'. To celebrate this, the teachers wrote down some of our ‘mistakes’, some of which included "losing a toy", "falling over", and "forgetting to ask a teacher for help". We then scrunched up the paper with our mistakes and threw them away. Afterwards, we had apples dipped in honey to celebrate the 'sweet New Year', and of course, we then had a party afterwards. We also took part in lots of apple-themed activities such as rescuing the apples from the water tray, apple threading, making apple 'stained glass windows', apple weighing and apple printing. As we move into October, we’ve been spotting signs of Autumn and have brought them into the room to investigate. We noticed the colours red, yellow, orange and brown and spoke about why lots of leaves are falling from the trees. We are looking forward to seeing how many more signs of Autumn we can spot.
