October Newsletter
Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to our October Newsletter, and as always, a very warm welcome to all the new families who have recently joined us. Autumn has definitely arrived here at 22 Street Lane! We have enjoyed watching all the leaves change colour and getting wrapped up in our cosy coats to explore our ever-changing environment at the nursery. We have lots of activities planned for October, including park walks, where the children can collect some exciting treasures such as pinecones, conkers and different coloured leaves. It is also Diwali and Black History Month during October, so the children will be celebrating both of these events, learning about inspirational figures, and participating in crafts linked to both events. We will be ending the month with our annual Halloween activities, including the Pumpkin Decorating Competition, our Stay and Play Events, the Halloween Disco, and Fancy Dress Day! To find out more, please read on...

NEWS
Country of the Month, October 2025: India During September, rather than focusing on one Country of the Month, we spent lots of time getting to know all of our new children and families who have joined the Nursery and celebrating everywhere that everyone is from! The children have enjoyed learning all about various countries, including Greece, Spain, China, Ireland and many more, whilst also participating in lots of ‘All About Me’ activities and trying out some new classes too.
Our Country of the Month for October will be India, as this ties in beautifully with our Diwali celebrations on Monday 20th October. Oli (our Nursery chef) will be cooking some traditional Indian meals, and the children will be joining in too. As Diwali is known as the ‘Festival of Lights’, the children will also be celebrating by making their own lights, listening to Indian music and also trying a bit of traditional Indian dancing! If any of our families have anything exciting to share with us around their own celebrations, we would love to include these during the week! Did you know? About 1.5 billion people live in India, which makes it the most populated country in the world!
Nursery Closure - Staff Training Day The Nursery will be closed on Thursday 30th October for our staff training day. We have two staff training days per year, and we ensure that these are on different days each year. We thank you for your support.

• 30ml of sweet chilli sauce • 1 finely diced garlic clove • Mixed vegetables, pepper, cabbage and carrots, finely sliced and washed • 1 finely diced red onion • 1 cinnamon stick • 1 star anise
• 500g of washed spinach • 2 vegetable stock cubes • 5g of Chinese 5 spice
Method 1. In a deep pan, add the onions, garlic and spices to the pan and slowly cook on a medium heat. 2. Coat the cheese in turmeric and add a little salt and pepper, bake in a pre-heated oven for around 15-20 minutes until it’s golden and crispy, then set aside. 3. Chicklets Room News
The Chicklets have had a lovely September and have done so well settling into the room over the past month! We have been on lots of lovely walks to Roundhay Park and the flower gardens; the Chicklets enjoyed seeing the ducks and the swans in the lake and feeding them some yummy oats! The children also enjoyed looking out for other things in their environment, such as cars, dogs, and lots of trees! The Chicklets have also been getting involved with lots of different messy play setups this month, and we noticed our babies really enjoy water play! They enjoyed splashing in the cool blue water, and trying to find all the different sea animals. We also explored ice texture play in the water, we explored with our hands and felt how cold the ice was on our fingers... ’brrrr’! We watched as the ice started to melt, and all the sea animals were free to swim in the water, which was so much fun! Lastly, we have been enjoying the ‘In The Zoo’ lift-the-flap book, so following on from this interest, we set up a zoo-themed tray that all the Chicklets got involved in! We explored different messy play textures using our transporting schema to transport the messy play to and from in our hands. We spotted all the different zoo animals and spoke about the different noises they make! We’re looking forward to more fun throughout October!

Ducklings Room News
Everyone in the Ducklings Room would like to give a warm welcome to all our new Ducklings and parents! September has been such a wonderful month as we have been getting to know all of the children and starting to form strong bonds. At the start of the month, we had an ‘all about me’ theme to help us get to know our little Ducklings’ interests and settle them into nursery life. We have done lots of small group times in our Sensory Room, where we have read stories and spent some quality time together! A lot of the Ducklings love the outdoors, so this has been such a great way to form stronger bonds in our garden area where we have done some lovely singing sessions, worked together to build sandcastles in our sand pit and read lots of stories in our cosy tipi! We have been on lots of walks for the children to get outside and explore! We had so much fun going to Roundhay Park to see the ducks, the flower gardens where we spotted all the different coloured flowers and the Tropical World gardens where the Ducklings loved to relax and have some yummy snack! In the room, we have had quite a lot of Autumn themed activities for the children to explore! We went into our garden to find leaves and twigs to enhance these setups; the Ducklings were so helpful doing this with us! The children have also loved getting involved in our weekly sessions of ‘Shake, Rattle and Boogie’ and ‘Baby Bloom’ , and it’s so lovely to see them joining in by singing, using the musical instruments to make sounds and building their confidence throughout the sessions - well done Ducklings!

Goslings Room News
We’ve had a fantastic start to the new term in Goslings as we welcomed our new children and began getting to know their individual interests. Activities have been inspired by the children’s choices, including creating dinosaur worlds, zooming cars and aeroplanes, and making potions and pretend food in our ‘Rainy Day Café’. This month, we also focused on emotions and feelings through stories, discussions, and creative play in the book area. As part of our ‘All About Me’ theme, the children looked at themselves in mirrors, shared family photos, and celebrated what makes everyone unique. We extended this learning outdoors with a group walk to the flower gardens at Roundhay Park, where we explored nature, played games, and enjoyed a picnic together. Our weekly classes have brought lots of excitement - Shake, Rattle & Boogie, now on a Tuesday continues to be a favourite, with lots of clapping, dancing, and singing. We also introduced a new session, Baby Bloom, which had us dressing up as animals and pirates and rowing imaginary boats! We celebrated Rosh Hashanah with a variety of hands-on activities, including apple printing, playdough modelling, and baking a delicious apple, cinnamon, and honey loaf. Shanah Tovah to all our families who celebrated! We can’t wait to see all of the fun that October brings.

The children have explored natural materials like leaves, pinecones, and conkers, using them in imaginative play and craft activities. We especially enjoyed making beautiful autumn wreaths to celebrate the season!
