22 Street Lane Nursery - September 2023 Newsletter
September Newsletter Ducklings Room Introduction
We would like to welcome you to the Ducklings Room and are really looking forward to getting to know your child. We wanted to introduce you to the room and explain some helpful information.
Staffing: We work on a 1:3 ratio in the Ducklings Room and can have up to 12 children in the room each day. We currently have four members of staff in the Ducklings Room who you will meet during your child's time here:
Chloe Powell Room Leader
Izzy Singleton Deputy Room Leader
Leah Tordoff Qualified Practitioner
Amy Christie Apprentice Practitioner
Before your child starts, they will be allocated one of these members of the Ducklings Team to be their Key Person. Your child's Key Person will be responsible for ensuring that your child’s emotional and physical needs are met; They will help your child settle into nursery life and they will observe and record their development. You and your child will get to know their Key Person during their settle sessions. In the event that your child’s Key Person is off, then we have a secondary Key Person system in place that will take over the roles of their main Key Person at that time. Although each child has their own Key Person, we encourage staff to bond with all the children.
The Daily Routine we follow in the Ducklings Room is as follows: 8:00-9:00: Breakfast 9:00-10:00: Free flow play / Key Person time / outside play 10:00-10:15: Snack 10:15-11:30: Free flow play / Key Person time / outside play 11:30-12:00: Lunch 12:00-14:00: Free flow play / Key Person time 14:00-14:15: Snack 14:15-15:30: Free flow play / Key Person time / outside play 15:30-16:00: Tea 16:00-18:00: Free Flow play
In the Ducklings Room, the routine fits around the individual needs of each child. The children will sleep at different times depending on their routine at home. This is similar to mealtimes, where some children may only have bottles, others will be eating full meals. For sleep time, we have coracles and sleep mats in the sleep area for the children have their naps. They will have their own labelled bed sheet and blanket, which are cleaned every week and stored in their individual baskets. Pick up and drop off: A member of staff will meet you at the door at the top of the stairs for handover, please gain a member of the Ducklings staff’s attention, by knocking on the window, and they can let us know you are waiting.
