Swans Room News June Newsletter

Over the past month, we have been very busy beginning to enjoy the sunny weather and taking part in many celebrations. We had a lovely time celebrating the King's Coronation and feeling a strong sense of community. The children enjoyed making crowns using different resources, and we enjoyed our special Afternoon Tea together. During May, we also thought a lot about Mental Health Awareness Week and took part in lots of mindfulness activities. We also read the story ‘The Colour Monster’ and learnt about how our feelings can sometimes get into a muddle. We then thought of ideas of how to calm us down in those moments. We also made our own Worry Box for us to talk to or draw pictures to help get our worries ‘out’ and get help from the grown-ups. The children also made hearts for their friends and told them why they are special. Additionally, we also celebrated ‘World Bee Week’ and learnt about why they are so important to our planet. The children shared the facts they already knew and learnt lots more. We particularly enjoyed learning about pollination and acting it out in different ways. One day, the children used pipettes to transfer the ‘nectar’ from flower to flower. Another day we used powder paint and pompoms to be the pollen and bees, and we saw how the ‘pollen’ stuck to the ‘bees’. The children that went to forest school found real pollen to spread around at the Monet Gardens. We learnt that this is so important to many flowers, crops, fruits and vegetables. Some children also got to make some yummy honey flapjacks.
