June Newsletter
Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to the June Newsletter, and as always, a warm greeting to the new families who have joined us recently. We have had another busy month at the nursery learning all about Spain, which has been our Country of the Month. We celebrated World Bee Day and focused on Mental Health Awareness Week where we spent lots of time out in the community! Later in the month, we welcomed all our lovely Grandparents for our Stay and Play event and celebrated National Children’s Gardening Week. We also enjoyed a visit from the mobile farm where we met lots of animals such as goats, guinea pigs, alpacas, pigs and rabbits. Throughout June, we will be celebrating Bicycle Day, National Picnic Week, Healthy Eating Week and Great Big Green Week, making lots of healthy treats, learning all about which foods are good for our body and give us lots of energy, and thinking of ways we can help look after our planet. We will also be learning about Eid al Adha and have our annual Father’s Day events. Lots of exciting
events to enjoy throughout June! To find out more, please read on...
June Newsletter STAFF NEWS
Welcome Back Caitlyn! We would like to welcome back Caitlyn, as she will be returning from her Maternity Leave in June for some ‘Keeping in Touch’ days. Caitlyn will then return to the setting 4 days a week from August, so you may begin to see her around the nursery more. We are looking forward to her being back!
Country of the Month, June 2025: Morocco Throughout May, we learnt all about Spain, and the children enjoyed creating their own interpretations of the Spanish flag, sampling some of the local cuisine and having a go at Flamenco dancing! The children also learnt how to say ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ in Spanish and our older children even practised counting up to 10. Throughout June we will be learning all about Morocco for the first time, linked to the Eid-Al-Adha celebrations at the end of the month. The children will be learning some Arabic, exploring the Sahara desert and learning about some famous landmarks and places in the country such as Marrakech (also known as ‘The Red City’) and Chefchaouen (Morocco’s famous Blue City). If any of our families have visited Morocco before and would like to share any photos of their travels, that would be great. Alternatively, if you have any resources/items linked to the country you would like to bring in, please feel free.

Nursery Closure - Staff Training Day: Wednesday 4th June Please be aware we will be holding a Team Training Day on Wednesday 4th June, which means that the nursery will be closed on that day. We look forward to re-opening and seeing the children back at the nursery on the following day.
World Bee Day Celebrations In support of ‘World Bee Day’ the children learnt all about why Bees are so important and how we can take care of bees to encourage biodiversity. Chef Oli also made a delicious honey loaf for everyone to enjoy! Did you know? • As well as honey, royal jelly, and pollen, bees provide products used in healthcare. • A third of the entire world’s food production depends on bees. • Bees are a good indicator of warmer weather and it’s common to spot bees buzzing around beautiful flowers during the summer months. Bees play an important role in pollinating trees and flowers, helping to provide habitats for wildlife. They also pollinate the food we need to survive.
Football Day Fun: Friday 2nd May To celebrate Leeds being promoted to the premier league, the children all enjoyed coming to the nursery in their Leeds or favourite football kit. We also enjoyed lots of football games, practising our skills and scoring some penalties!
June Newsletter NEWS
Mental Health Awareness Week To support Mental Health Awareness Week, the children took part in lots of activities linked to feelings and emotions, including: exploring a range of stories, some yoga sessions, and having a spa and relaxation day. As the theme this year was ‘community’, the children also enjoyed lots of walks and outings around the local area. Some of the older children also stopped by the residential home and local shops to hand out some flowers to brighten others’ days. It was a lovely week!

Healthy Eating Week and Great Big Green Week: W/C Monday 9th June
We will be supporting ‘Healthy Eating Week’ from 9th-13th June, where we will be teaching the children about what foods keep us healthy and what foods we should not eat too much. Each of the rooms will be making their own healthy snacks and will have a chance to visit the nursery allotment and Oli’s allotment near the park to see where our food comes from! The Great Big Green Week is during the same week and is the UK’s biggest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. The children will therefore be learning all about how we can protect our planet, going on lots of walks in the local community, collecting litter and learning about saving our oceans. The Cygnets and Swans will also be doing some junk modelling using recycled materials, focusing on the importance of recycling and reusing items.
World Bicycle Day Linked to Healthy Eating Week, we will also be discussing exercise and ways to move our bodies. We would therefore like to invite the children to bring their bikes or scooters in on the above dates, to take part in some races in the car park area. Cygnets Room - Tuesday 10th June Swans Room - Wednesday 11th June More information will follow in a separate Tapestry post.
Eid Al Adha Celebrations: Friday 6th June The children will be learning the customs and traditions of Eid Al Adha. Muslims celebrate Eid Al-Adha on the last day of the Hajj. The children will also have the opportunity to take part in Eid-inspired activities such as making their own Eid Mubarak pictures consisting of stars and moons, as well as creating Henna Hands by copying some beautiful henna patterns. The older children will be able to make their own Eid Biscuits, using a range of traditional Asian spices.

Dish of the Month
See our past selections on: 22streetlanenursery.co.uk/dish-of-the-month/ Apple and Ginger Sorbet
Ingredients • 1 litre of fresh apple juice • 6 green granny smith apples
• 25ml of lemon juice • 100g of icing sugar • 10g of ginger • 5ml of vanilla extract
Method 1. Wash and rinse your apples and add them to a deep pan. Cook them in the pan for 5 minutes, making sure to add the lemon juice to prevent the apples from going brown. 2. Add all the remaining liquid ingredients and simmer on low heat until the apples are soft. 3. Blend in a food processor and pass it through a fine sieve. Then cool the mixture for 24 hours in the fridge. 4. Churn the liquid in an ice cream maker or pour it into plastic dishes and pop it in the freezer. When the mixture is frozen but not solid, scratch up the sorbet with a fork and mix the mixture, then add it back into the freezer. 5. Before eating, defrost the sorbet for 30-60 minutes to allow it to come to room temperature.

Chicklets Room News
The Chicklets have had another very busy month during May. We started off by exploring ‘National Storytelling Week’ where the Chicklets engaged in various fun and messy play activities based on our favourite books such as ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. We explored lots of new and interesting textures such as different fruits and objects. The Chicklets also brought in their favourite books from home to share with their friends. From this, we introduced the Chicklets Lending Library where children were able to borrow a book from the nursery and take it home to read. Then came our annual Pop-up farm which the babies absolutely loved. The babies met lots of different animals such as an alpaca, a pig, a Shetland pony, sheep, goats, rabbits, cows and guinea pigs. We practised our communication skills by waving, saying “hello” and practising our different animal noises. Towards the end of the month, we had our Grandparents stay and play where the Chicklets enjoyed showing their grandparents what they get up to at nursery and engaging in different activities together such as decorating picture frames, splashing in the tea and exploring the garden tuff tray. Thank you all so much for coming, it was so lovely to meet you all and see you spend some quality time with the babies. We then had Gardening Week where we ventured out into Oli’s allotment so he could show us all his herbs and vegetables, and we even helped him water the plants!

Ducklings Room News
In the Ducklings Room, we had so much fun celebrating Football Day at the start of May. The children loved playing football with their friends throughout the day; we created Elland Road stadium in a tuff tray where our Ducklings used their fine motor skills to score goals with their fingers. We also had yellow and blue Leeds United-coloured playdough to explore. The Ducklings looked amazing in their football kits. Bee Day was a fun celebration in our room; the Ducklings explored our bee-themed tray made out of rice. They all loved to ‘buzz’ as they transferred the rice around the tray before making their own buzzy bees out of black and yellow play dough! We would like to say a big thank you to all the grandparents who attended our Grandparent’s Stay and Play. The Ducklings loved finding their picture in the flower water tray, creating red love hearts out of play dough and spending some quality time with their grandparents. We ended the month by celebrating National Children’s Gardening Week where the Ducklings explored soil-filled tuff trays with hidden vegetable flash cards, looked through the binoculars to find the bugs in our garden tray and planted their own flowers in the brown ‘soil’ playdough.

Goslings Room News
It has been a lovely sun-filled start to the summer season. This month we have been busy working on ways to promote mindfulness and independence. We celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week and the Goslings enjoyed participating in activities which taught us about different emotions. We have been working on identifying these emotions within ourselves as well as taking part in group times where they have enjoyed linking colours with their emotions and making different faces to match them too. We also created our own spa day in the room, where the children were invited to come dressed in their pyjamas and we enjoyed a hairdresser station, massages, face mask, a nail salon and lots of yoga sessions both in big and small groups. During our yoga sessions, the children have been challenging their gross motor and coordination skills and have enjoyed the challenge. This month in the park we have also been working on our physical skills, the children enjoyed playing football and climbing trees in the open space as well as keeping an eye out for different animals or vehicles we can spot too. Next month in collaboration with Children’s Gardening Week we will be focusing on planting and things that grow, the children have already started taking part in seed potting activities and we have been helping Oli water the plants in his allotment, we will be working on different ways in which we can enhance this around the room and by the end the children will have planted their own cress and other herbs which will be on display on our windowsill.

Cygnets Room News
In the month of May, the Cygnets celebrated ‘Share a Story Week’, the children brought in their favourite books from home to enjoy with friends. They explored ‘The Three Little Pigs’ by building houses with straw, sticks, and bricks, and even created their own storybooks by painting the covers and sharing imaginative stories. For ‘Mental Health Awareness Week’, the Cygnets explored emotions through yoga, meditation, and creative activities. They made colour monsters out of playdough to talk about their feelings, enjoyed a calming spa day, and learned about healthy eating to make their bodies happy. The week ended on a thoughtful note as they delivered flowers to the local community to spread kindness. Another highlight was when the classroom transformed into ‘Cygnets Airways’. The children made their own passports, packed bags, and experienced a pretend airport - complete with security checks and boarding the plane. We also celebrated ‘Gardening Week’ by creating garden-themed artwork, investigating mini beasts, and observing real caterpillars grow in our room. A special afternoon was shared with grandparents during our stay and play session, where children proudly showed off their favourite areas to play. To top off a fantastic month, we launched a new football class called Mini Kicks, which has already become a firm favourite!
