Country of the Month: Thailand;

The children have been exploring Thailand this month. They have been learning about the country through fun activities such as building temples from construction blocks, dancing to Thai music and expressing their art and design skills creating elephants. The children have been having so much fun!

Next month;

Next month we are taking a trip to Mexico. If any parents have any resources that they could contribute, we would be most grateful.

Once again thank you for your support.

French Classes;

You are never too young to start to learn a second language. It can offer a lifetime of opportunities and therefore it is essential, if a child is to embrace languages, that any language experience becomes an enjoyable part of their life. Jolie Ronde, in conjunction with 22 Street Lane Nursery encourages our pre-school children to become confident & enthusiastic language learners, who, in time, will have their talents recognised & provide them with a skill for life. The children love their weekly French classes with Madame Zoe where they learn French through song’s and role play with their French friends Tounette and Matou.

Autumn Treasure Collection;

As part of our celebration of Autumn, we have been collecting some Autumn Treasures.

If you would like to add to our collection we will have some collection bags available in reception for you to take home to fill.

Autumn Treasures could be from your local park, woods or even garden and may include, conkers, colourful leaves, pine cones or anything else you might find that relates to Autumn.

We look forward to adding them to our collection, and exploring them at nursery.

Harvest Food Bank Collection;

The Autumn equinox indicating the end of summer and a change in the seasons marks the celebration of the Harvest Festival period. It brings with it a time of reflection and thankfulness for the abundance of food we are all fortunate to have, whilst also remembering those who don’t have access to the most basic of necessities. We helped support such a great cause last year with great success and we are looking for your support once again with our foodbank in order to show our children the importance of helping local people in crisis. During the next couple of weeks, we will be collecting items of dry food to donate to our local food bank.

Any donations of dry/tinned food; breakfast cereal, soup, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, baked beans, tinned meat, tinned vegetables, instant mash, UHT milk, tea, coffee, sugar, tinned dessert and biscuits will be gratefully received.

Nature Walks;

As Autumn has arrived we have had fantastic opportunities to explore the changing environment. The children of 22SLN have been wrapping up warm and going for nature walks to our local park, Roundhay.

They have been collecting leaves and conkers to explore back at the nursery and just simply enjoying the wonderful surrounding the park has to offer.

Drainage smell – closed off;

We are pleased to be able to let you know that the drainage issue has finally been resolved. The resin bound and garden area have been dug up over the course of 2 weekends in order to install the relevant traps that we now know were missed by the building contractors in the initial renovation work. We would like to thank you for your patience and continued support as it has taken some time to diagnose.

Help to secure Council land for a

much needed school in North

Leeds, - Justine Greening MP;

Support the petition to Justine Greening MP Education Secretary for help to secure the release of the Golf Course Practice Ground from Leeds City Council to enable a much-needed school to be built in North Leeds. In the Roundhay and Shadwell areas of Leeds we are short around 60 primary school places every year. That means 60 children are unable to access places at their local schools. This has been the situation since 2015 when 86 families failed to secure any local primary schools.

Recipe of the Month;

Locally sourced fish pie with a

cheesy mash topping

Ingredients

• A mix of locally sourced fish (Cod, Salmon, Haddock) • 2-3 eggs • 1 large carrot, chopped • 1 medium head broccoli, chopped • 500g potatoes, or enough to cover your dish

• 300ml cheese sauce • 2 tomatoes, chopped

Method;

1. Preheat the oven to 200 C / Gas 6.

2. Put the eggs on to hard boil while you chop the vegetables. Put the carrot and broccoli in a pan and cook until tender.

3. Boil and mash the potatoes.

4. Make your cheese sauce. Either make from scratch with plenty of cheese, or use a packet and add extra cheese. (I do this in the pan I boiled eggs in to save on washing up.)

5. Shell and chop your eggs into 8.

6. Mix all the vegetables with the cheese sauce and pour into a casserole dish.

7. Top with the mash, sealing the edges as much as possible to avoid the sauce leaking over the oven.

8. Sprinkle a handful of cheese over the top.

9. Bake until the cheese browns, about 25 minutes.
