The Curiosity Approach Award We would like to announce that 22 Street Lane Nursery has gained the Curiosity Approach Accreditation. The Curiosity Approach is inspired by the great philosophies and pioneers of early years such as Reggio Emilia, Montessori and Steiner. It is an ethos where we focus on and celebrate the magical moments in early years, providing passion and the invitations to learning which will promote curiosity, imagination and awe and wonder for children. Comment from the Accessor, Michelle - "I am delighted to recommend 22 Street Lane Nursery for accredited status. I would like to thank Sophie and the team for their thorough submission and beautifully cross-referenced supporting evidence, for quickly responding to my email requests and to Sophie for taking the time to speak with me today to go over a few points from the assessment. Over the past year, we have been reflecting on our current practice and standards to make changes to our environment focusing on the development of the whole child with extra care on their heart and mind.

Through the love of learning and a sense of belonging, where children are respected and nurtured as unique individuals, we have been aiming to create an environment for curious minds with pockets of magic, awe and wonder at every turn. “Beauty, awe and wonder ignite the senses more than plastic manufactured resources” ~ The Curiosity Approach

New Taster Pots We’ve recently introduced these lovely tasting pots to 22 Street Lane, which allows our parents and carers to sample some of the yummy and nutritious foods that their children enjoy at Nursery. Our Head Chef, Chris Milner, ensures all our children are well-fed with healthy meals each ad every day, and now you can take a small pot of these tasty treats home to enjoy. Our first pots were filled with a vegan mixed berry and coconut smoothie served with a fruit garnish, which the parents were able to try for breakfast when they dropped off their children. We’re already planning to serve up plenty more treats in the future, so keep an eye out for these tasting pots in the future.

Healthy Eating Week: W/C 13th - 17th June We will be celebrating the British Nutrition Foundation’s 'Healthy Eating Week’ in June. Healthy Eating Week aims to promote healthy eating, drinking and physical activity. We will be talking to the children about healthy eating and will be allowing the children to make their own healthy snacks.

Upcoming Nursery Closures • Thursday 2nd June - Late May Bank Holiday • Friday 3rd June - Queen's Platinum Jubilee • Wednesday 8th June -Team Training Day • Monday 29th August - August Bank Holiday

Notice: Phone Calls to the Nursery Please can we ask parents to only ask to speak to the staff in the room if it's an emergency. We are finding that a lot of parents are calling the nursery and wanting to speak to room staff for other reasons, which is taking the staff away from the children. Thank you for your support.

We have been very busy in the Chicklets Room during May! The children have shown a strong interest in messy play this month and have been exploring different media, textures and materials. Sand play has also been a massive hit indoors and outdoors, where the children have enjoyed using their fine motor skills to scoop up the sand to fill the containers. We have been making the most of the beautiful weather this month and spending a lot of time out in the garden. We have even been lucky enough to go to Roundhay Park in the prams, where we had the chance to feed the ducks too. The children have found a new favourite game during their time in the garden, where they like a staff member to catch them, so they have the chance to run around the garden. The babies have also enjoyed exploring the Busy Board and using the different tools on the board, such as the door handles. Music has been a massive hit this month and the Chicklets have been very excited to see Kimberly from Shake, Rattle and Boogie. A lot of the children now say 'hello' and 'goodbye' to Boogie Bear. Quite a few children have started to show off their singing skills and join in with some of their favourite tunes, such as: 'Wind the Bobbin Up' and 'If You’re Happy and you Know It’. Home Learning Activity: Now that the weather is getting warmer, can you make your own water play activity? This can be in the garden or even at bath time. You can add bubbles to the water or make it a different colour with food colouring!

Ducklings Room News

We have had a wonderful sunny May here in the Ducklings Room. We’ve had very green fingers this month, as we repotted our baby Aloe Vera plants and have been taking great care of our herb planters for Chris (the chef), taking trips up to the kitchen balcony to water the herbs and watch them grow day-by-day. The Ducklings have also ventured out of Nursery on trips to Roundhay Park to visit the swans and cygnets. On the way, they enjoyed looking at the different colours, from flower gardens, trees and all of the wildlife that we pointed out on the way. The Ducklings have also enjoyed lots of water activities in the garden, splashing to keep cool from the sun and using their fine motor skills for filling, pouring and using paint brushes to make marks on the fence. Visits to the Big Garden has been a massive hit for the Ducklings, and they’ve loved challenging their physical skills, running, and bear crawling up the hills, through the tunnels and up the bark to the huge slide! They have also enjoyed cooking up a storm in the Mud Kitchen with the older children and watching everyone playing over the watch tower. Inside we have been busy with lots of mark making, painting, sensory play, talking about shapes and colours, dancing and reading lots of wonderful stories. We can’t wait for more sun, more outings and lots more fun to come next month in the Ducklings Room!
