Dear Parents and Carers, Autumn is most definitely a magical time for children, and we have been exploring the season in so many ways. We enjoyed autumnal trips to Roundhay Park, and collecting the many natural treasures such as conkers, pinecones and colourful leaves. The children have taken part in lots of different creative activities, and we have loved seeing the autumnal home learning activities that you shared. The children then had a spooky time celebrating Halloween, where they explored lots of messy play activities, attend a Halloween disco, carve pumpkins, dress up and listen to spooky stories. It was lovely to see so many parents attend our Halloween Stay and Play sessions for the younger children and take part in our pumpkin competition. We hope that you had as much fun as the children! We have lots of exciting things planned for the children throughout November, so to find out more, please read on...
November Newsletter Bonfire Night: Wednesday 5th November
We must be super careful and cautious around the fire and fireworks! Check out our top tips to ensure your bonfire celebrations are fun and free from danger:
• Children should watch firework displays from a safe distance, well away from any fireworks and bonfires. • The area surrounding the display should be cordoned off, and any children nearby should always be supervised. • If anyone suffers from heart problems, bronchitis or asthma, it might be best to enjoy the display from indoors. • Turn the lights off to best enjoy the magical colours and lights! • Sparklers should not be given to children under 5 years old, and adults should never hold a baby whilst using a sparkler. • Any fires should be lit well away from any wooden, or other flammable material, building, shed or fences where children may be playing. • Sparklers should be kept well away from other people and held at arm’s length. • After use, sparklers should be placed into a bucket of cold water. • Ensure gloves are worn whilst holding a sparkler or stick a carrot into the end of the stick to form a protective grip that is easier for children to hold.

Welcome Mia! A warm welcome to Mia, who has joined our team as a Bank Staff Practitioner! “I am so pleased to be joining the team here at 22SLN. I am looking forward to seeing the children grow and learn through educational activities and fun experiences. Seeing the progress of the children is very important and rewarding as you get to be a part of a vital time of their childhood experiences. I have always had a passion for working with children, and with my experience in gymnastics coaching I learnt the importance of listening to each child’s views and understanding the different perspectives of everyone in the group. I’m looking forward to working alongside an incredible team and meeting all the wonderful children! In my free time I enjoy traveling, visiting new cities and spending time with my family and friends.”

Halloween-Inspired Flapjacks
See our past selections on: 22streetlanenursery.co.uk/dish-of-the-month/
Ingredients • 400g White’s Speedicook Oats • 200g Butter • 50g Brown Sugar • 3 tbsp Golden Syrup • 2 tbsp black Treacle (if you don’t have this, you can sub in more golden syrup here!)
• 1 tsp Cinnamon • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg • 3 Apples • 100ml Toffee/Caramel sauce
Method 1. Preheat your oven to 190°C, grease and line a 9-inch square tin. Then peel, core and chop your apples 2. Cook in a saucepan over low heat to soften for 5 minutes (to speed this up, you can add a tablespoon of sugar and a little water) 3. In another saucepan, melt the butter, sugar, golden syrup and treacle until combined 4. Take off the heat and mix in your oats and spices 5. Spread half of the oats mixture into the tin and push down to completely cover (use the back of a spoon to make sure it’s compact) 6. Spread the apple mixture on top 7. Follow with the other half of the oats mixture, again spreading evenly and as compactly as possible 8. Bake for 20-25 minutes (will depend on your oven, keep an eye towards the end to make sure they don’t start to burn) 9. Allow to cool, then drizzle over your toffee sauce, cut into bars and finish with your googly eyes!

The Chicklets have had a fantastic October with lots of Autumn-themed activities throughout the month! We explored different messy trays using our transporting skills to explore and move rice to different areas of the tray. We explored further textures of objects such as leaves, twigs and pinecones. The Chicklets also celebrated World Mental Health Day! In celebration of this, the Chicklets had a spa day! They enjoyed listening to calming music and splashing in the bubbly water. The Chicklets also enjoyed a baby massage and relaxation session; we explored cucumber play and enjoyed feeling it on our faces and also eating it! We also enjoyed exploring the baby massage toys on our backs and bodies, this was our favourite part! The Chicklets also enjoyed a lovely walk in the park after our spa day in the afternoon! We also had a few little visitors from one of our older rooms! The Chicklets were really happy and excited to see the Swans! The Swans were such big helpers, and helped the Chicklets with their snack routine; they also helped them to get changed for outside! Ducklings Room News
October has been a fantastic month in the Ducklings Room; we started the month off by welcoming some more Ducklings to our room, and they’ve all done such a great job at settling into Nursery life! For Mental Health Awareness Day, we set up an emotions face tray made out of foam. The Ducklings used the paint brushes to create their own marks as we read our ‘emotions’ book, and we spoke about how we feel and pointed out which emotion we felt. In the afternoon, we planned a ‘spa day’ for our Ducklings - there was a massage bed, foot spa, mini afternoon tea and a cosy corner. The Ducklings got changed into their comfy clothes and had so much fun relaxing on the bed. They covered their eyes with a cucumber as they enjoyed an oat face mask, got cosy in the reading area looking at some favourite books and splashed in the water tray. It was a very relaxing afternoon! With Halloween around the corner, we have planned lots of activities for the Ducklings to get involved with, such as our very own pumpkin patch, where the children can find different pumpkins in the soil and choose one each! We had so much fun during the Halloween Stay & Play events! The children all had so much fun with all of their parents, they loved exploring the room, playing with the spooky playdough with spiders and finding the eyeballs in the spooky soup! Thank you to everyone who attended, we all had such a great time! We can’t wait to see what November brings!

Goslings Room News
We’ve had a wonderful October in Goslings, full of autumn celebrations and lots of fun activities! We began the month by celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, learning how families in China gather under the full moon to share mooncakes and give thanks for the harvest. The children made their own pretend mooncakes from playdough using rollers and chopsticks, explored a family-themed sand tray, and looked at pictures of their own families. For World Mental Health Day, we enjoyed a relaxing Spa Day! The Goslings explored sensory lights and squishy toys, relaxed with cucumber eye masks and massage mats, and made fruity drinks, experimenting with lemons and limes. We even had a warm foot spa with flower petals and bubbles. This month, we also celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Light. The children followed colourful scarf Rangoli patterns, explored a light-filled festival scene, and created beautiful Rangoli and firework art using powder paint, forks, and their fingers. October also brought us lovely autumn walks, where we spotted squirrels, swans, acorns, and conkers. We celebrated lots of Goslings’ birthdays too, with dancing, bubbles, and their favourite music! To end the month, we hosted our Halloween Stay & Plays. Families joined us for spooky sensory trays, pumpkin play, wobbly jelly, and crafts, all topped off with Oli’s delicious Halloween treats.

The children enjoyed messy play while carving pumpkins, taking part in themed activities inspired by Room on the Broom, and even making their own magic wands. Our pumpkin patch in the big garden has been a big hit! Everyone loved exploring and discovering pumpkins of all shapes and sizes.
